Understanding Ohio Dog Laws & Responsible Ownership

Dog ownership comes with important responsibilities, including understanding local and state laws related to dog behavior and safety. In Ohio, laws such as Avery's Law help define how behavioral incidents involving dogs may be evaluated and classified.

At Planned Pethood, we believe education, training, supervision, and responsible ownership are key to successful long-term relationships between dogs and their families. We evaluate dogs in our care using professional trainers, ASPCA behavioral guidelines, and available third-party behavioral assessments provided by our transfer partners. We disclose any known behavioral history to adopters. However, behavior can change as dogs adjust to new people, homes, environments, and stressors.

We strongly encourage adopters and pet owners to utilize training and behavioral support resources whenever needed and to reach out early if concerns arise. Proactive training, structure, and safe introductions can make a significant difference in helping dogs successfully transition into their homes and communities.
